Meet the Authors of

Jewelry Savvy: What Every Jewelry Wearer Should Know

Cynthia A. Sliwa, AICI (Association of Image Consultants International), is a certified professional image consultant and the creator of Apprecia Fine Jewelry, a line of jewelry developed to flatter full-figured women. A lawyer by trade, she is also an avid collector of vintage costume jewelry. Sliwa provides image consulting workshops and services for jewelers and other professionals and their clients, writes for several publications, and coaches individuals on personal image. She was awarded the Rising Star Award by AICI in 2005.

Sliwa was born and raised in the Chicago area, graduated with honors from Yale University and received her J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School. She now makes her home near Los Angeles.

Caroline Stanley, a lifetime jewelry industry veteran, is a third-generation jeweler running her own jewelry-marketing firm. She grew up behind the jewelry counter helping customers and learning the business in her family’s retail store in Arkansas, Stanley Jewelers Gemologists.

After a decade in retail sales and management, Stanley moved on to serve the industry in a variety of positions, focusing on marketing, communications and education, working with top jewelry trade associations. In 2002, she opened her own firm, Red Jewel, Inc., providing industry-savvy marketing, communications and consulting to the international jewelry industry.

With her varied background, Stanley knows the jewelry industry inside and out. She was the creative force behind two of the industry’s top educational programs. Today she writes and teaches, works with a variety of clients in the jewelry industry, consults internationally and develops marketing and training programs. She lives near Los Angeles.
